Sencha is the most popular and most consumed green tea in Japan. Almost 80% of the green tea produced in Japan is Sencha.
Sencha is is produced from tea leaves that are grown under direct sunlight (different from Matcha, Gyokuro and Kabusecha). Sencha is consider higher grade tea because only tea leaves from upper part of the tree are used to produce Sencha. Upper part tea leaves are younger and has higher sweetness. Tea leaves from lower part of the tea tree will be used to produce Bancha. Sencha has refreshing astringency with some umami, especially higher grade Sencha. Our Sencha is grown in tea farm in Shizuoka, Japan. Shizuoka is one of the largest and best site for tea growing and production.
There are many different grades even for Sencha itself, depending on the harvesting season, quality of the tea leaves and the growing region etc. Our Sencha is harvested during Spring season and it's first flush Sencha, higher grade Sencha. You may find many Sencha selling in the market selling at lower price, but most of them are low grade Sencha, or we call it Bancha.
